You will be working with a talented team of technical database specialists who are always looking to implement cutting edge technology to utilise the continuous improvements from the SQL server product set. The infrastructure design for the database platform
is in our hands to shape the future for Tesco.com and continue to show how we deliver world class scalable IT solutions.
Role
To provide expertise and support for a SQL database environment by:
• To contribute to the creation and the enforcement of SQL Server and Oracle database implementation and management standards based on industry-wide best practice
• To ensure that there are processes, procedures and instrumentation in place to provide the highest performance and availability for all database services.
• To ensure data integrity is maintained for managed database services.
• To provide performance capacity management for the growth and usage for managed database services.
• To provide problem management and problem resolution for database services issues.
Specific Deliverables
• To provide support for all of production, DR and non-production database services and environments.
• To support development, testing and the implementation phases of SQL Server.
• To support the migration phases of SQL Server version and hardware system upgrades.
• Analysis and follow-through of application service problems against the critical trading and reporting databases.
• To maintain highly available database systems
• The maintenance and upgrade for a disaster recovery replication strategy (Log Shipping and Dataguard)
First the basics, to succeed you must combine a degree level 2.1 qualification or equivalent with a sound approach of technical programming expertise. You’ll need a logical approach to problem solving, and the ability to constructively review solutions proposed
by our development teams.
• Over 3 years production experience in the SQL Server product area.
• Excellent written and communication skills.
• IT experience in a system specialist role.
• Has a successful track record of delivery, and broad understanding of technology and how it is applied.
• Advanced Administration of Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008 products
• Advanced knowledge of TSQL
• Experience of Installation and configuration to industry standards
• SQL and Transact SQL Reporting
• Understanding of Security/Roles and interaction to Active Directory
• Performance Tuning Principals
• Database design and capacity planning
• Backup/Recovery Principals
• Advanced understanding of SQL Replication
• Understanding of Microsoft Windows Clustering
• Understanding of SAN technology
