We have already mobilised several of our web sites through in house development of apps and working with a 3rd parties. With mobile technology playing an increasingly important role in the retail industry we are looking to expand our offering in several areas.
This is opening up opportunities across the IT programme on mobile development and our strategic API platform. .
Specifically you will be working as part of the IT team driving the mobile development from initiation through to implementation working with the business teams to control requirements and scope. You should have relevant experience of mobile development and
comfortable working with colleagues on and offshore and within a matrix environment. Ideally you will also have experience of working in an agile way and managing 3rd party suppliers.
This role will best suit an individual who thrives under pressure, is well organised, pragmatic and a lateral thinker, can manage issues, decisions and stakeholders and most importantly, puts our customers first.
The position will be based at our Head Office in Welwyn Garden City. Free parking is available, we are connected to London Kings Cross with a fast service (c. 25mins) and our offices include gym, canteen, petrol station and dry cleaning services.
Key responsibilities/accountabilities
Reporting to the IT Programme Manager, responsibilities will include:
• Putting our customers first – ensuring that the IT delivery of the programme meets the requirements, is a great customer experience and will bring benefit to the business
• Controlling scope - ensuring effective definition of ‘minimal marketable features’ and working with the product owner, and development teams to agree a programme of deliverables.
• Pro-active management – identification of risks, issues and dependencies across this Programme and others within Tesco. Creation and monitoring of the plan, Status reporting of progress and escalation when necessary.
• Managing the IT implementation of the solution from initiation through to implementation with potentially a sequence of deployments to get to the ‘best of breed’ solution.
• Engaging stakeholders from both a business and IT background, demonstrating knowledge of the solution, mobile technology and managing ongoing communication throughout project
• Ensuring the solution is the best for Tesco giving a better, simpler and cheaper solution

• Liaising and influencing at all levels of management, both internally and externally. You should be a good ambassador for Tesco with excellent interpersonal skills.
• Being consistent in your views, decisions, ways of working but be able to ‘take people with you’ in complex decisions and implementations.
• The successful candidate will have a tenacious can do, will do mentality. Whilst being personally robust and willing to challenge the status quo you will work closely with other team members both on and off-shore.
• Organised, analytical and pragmatic – you will be seen to define and drive the Project forward with a realistic plan and clear agreed deliverables.
Technical
• You will have relevant experienced of mobilising websites ideally with a leading UK Retailer.
• You should be comfortable working with and managing resource based across different locations and from multiple sources (both internal and from external suppliers).
• You should have a solid technical understanding in order to be able to ensure that the solution is the right one, you will need to be comfortable having technical conversations, understand the possibilities of online technologies and know when to ask questions.
• You will know what ‘good looks like’ for mobile sites and/or kiosks and be able to challenge appropriately to ensure we deliver best of breed solutions that our customers will love.
• You will be a natural planner, looking ahead, raising issues, risks and dependencies, providing solutions and meeting deadlines.
• Your written and verbal communication skills must be second to none – structured, flexible and clear.
Key Skills/ Experience and Qualifications required
• 2:1 Degree
• Experience of working in large or complex IT Programmes
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills are essential
• Experience of delivering project in the Retail or E-commerce business is desired
• Experience of Agile development methods is a bonus
