Job Description

An exciting opportunity to work as a Sterling OMS Deployment engineer within the Change and Configuration team for one of the UK’s largest online retailers has become available. Working as part of the team responsible for delivering a challenging new project the successful candidate will play a key role in deploying the new ecommerce platform in large a scale enterprise architecture.


Day job

Working as part of the Change and Configuration team, your day to day role will involve working. Although the main focus will be around Sterling, you will be required to quickly gain understanding of new technologies ensuring they are deployed in a logical, manageable and efficient way. You will be responsible for the following:

• Work alongside third party vendors and consultants to produce and own detailed technical implementation plans for deploying components into test and production environments.
• Become a technical subject matter expert on deployment and maintenance of components and environments, working with a range of technologies such as:
• JBOSS
• Linux
• Custom third-party applications such as ATG, Tibco, Sterling OMS, Endeca, Oracle PIM and Open Deploy
• Define, implement and champion new repeatable release processes to enable fast and reliable software changes:
• Scripting and Process Automation
• Process Documentation and Governance
• Ensure suitable technical documentation is produced to aid in the knowledge transferee from vendors and consultants to Tesco
• Providing support and guidance to the project management team, ensuring deliverables are managed to meet key milestones and aggressive timescales.

Candidate Profile

Experience

The ideal candidate will have a degree level qualification (2:1 or above in Computer Science or a related discipline). An excellent technical background and understanding of web based technologies, with a minimum of 2 years experience delivering or supporting a large scale ecommerce implementation. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a high pressure and fast pace environment and have a proactive approach to problem solving.


Essential skills – Must Have

The ideal candidate will have a degree-level qualification (2:1 or above in Computer Science or a related discipline). An excellent technical background and understanding of web based technologies, with solid / proven experience working on large scale ecommerce implementations. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a high pressure and fast-paced environment and have a proactive approach to problem solving.

- Minimum of 2 years working in a production environment
- Proven track record in supporting a large scale ecommerce platform.
- The ability to troubleshoot complex problems and provide robust solutions.
- Good analytical and communication skills
- Strong Knowledge of Linux and Java
- Strong knowledge of JBoss and JBoss Messaging Services in a clustered environment.
- Working knowledge of tools and instruments: shell scripting, Perl, Sterling API Tester.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve Server, Network and Application failures, engaging internal specialists and vendors as required.
- Application deployment automation
- At least two years industry experience of Release / Change / Configuration Management
- Understanding of the SDLC (software development lifecycle)
- High attention to detail, process driven


Highly Desirable Skills

• Knowledge of Sterling OMS application: usage, configuration, extension, monitoring, deployment.
• Working knowledge of the custom application extensions for OMS.
• Experience with TIBCO queues and integration.
• Experience of Middleware/Weblogic/Database applications on a variety of platforms.
• Knowledge of used protocols and standards: XML, XSL, SOAP, Web services, JMS, JNDI, JD BC, log4j.
