Jobs in Information Technology (IT) and communications have considerable overlap thanks to the reliance of both sectors on the Internet. As such, two once-distinct job categories now share significant similarities, with the skills required in one area often being useful in another.
The broad range of skills required in IT and communications means that there are many different job opportunities available in this sector. IT workers may, for example, be software engineers or developers, or they may work on implementing and monitoring software systems at a variety of businesses.

The Internet has enhanced the profile of those candidates with communications skills markedly over the past ten years. The advent of social media, online marketing, advertising and other digital platforms has resulted in a greater overlap of skills between this sector and IT.
Like IT jobs, communications specialists can find their skills are applicable over a wide range of job sectors, especially those to do with public relations, media, advertising, marketing and the burgeoning area of social media.
